Greetings, dear geeks and quilters!

I'm in the process of trying to find my camera cord so we can get on to some more fun, so for now, I'm going to leave you with upcoming posts.

- A review of my first fabric subscription from Marmalade Fabrics (or anyone else, really)
- Process for SewMamaSew's crayon box quilt (The tutorial can be found here, and I'll only be posting photos and commentary on my experience, not a tutorial).
- First part of a tutorial for a Vanishing 9-patch variation
- Guide to parcelling out fat quarters into useable pieces
- Rough photo guide to the brick-wall pattern baby quilt I'm working on.
-The never-ending patriotic split-rail wedding gift.

Heyo! Patchwork Geek here, welcoming you to my blog. Assuming all goes as planned, I'll be chronicling my adventures in quilting and other sewing projects here on these virtual pages. Many thanks to Stooshie, a fellow crafting geek, whose talk of blogging about geekery inspired me to do the same.

Before we delve into my current projects and methods, here's a little backstory:

Back in September of 2013, I was in a car accident. Nothing major and I wasn't badly hurt, but a month later I lost my job due to a need for light duty on a wrist with torn tendons. October is not a good time of year to be looking for work in my area, and I spent two months unemployed.

During those two months, I began cleaning and sorting through boxes that had remained packed since my return to my hometown a year before. In one, I found a heap of loosely sewn patches and strips I'd tried to turn into a quilt a few summers before. With no clue what I was doing and far too much time on my hands, I took to the 'net to find a way to finish what I'd started. The result? Not too shabby!

All green, blue and purples with lots of botanics!
Quilting turned out to be a great distraction from being stuck out in the boonies with my extended family and nothing to do. I got my hands on a lot of black cotton and a stack of rainbow-colored fat quarters and winged a new quilt top, this one intended for eventual display on my bed. (I still have to back, bat, and quilt the thing.)

I have yet to find a perch at the right height and angle to take a better shot of this thing. It's huge!

Confident, I offered my little sister a quilt for Christmas. She selected nine fabrics on her Thanksgiving break, and I turned them into an overly ambitious Vanishing 9-patch over Christmas break.

Yes, I had to have the script blocks all the same way up and running the same direction.

And now? Now I have a wedding present, a personal gift, two baby quilts and a test of my abilities in various stages of construction. We'll see if I can avoid getting them mixed up.

Happy stitching!
